On Saturday September 28th 2013 Austin, Texas will be ground zero for the craft beer community across Texas….and the nation. We’re not the knock-kneed little sister anymore folks. Texas is approaching the magic 100 number of craft breweries in the Great State; this in spite of the industry being hamstrung by a hodge podge of archaic laws and regulations that would make Huey P. Long blush. There have been baby steps made in the most recent lege, but as the years pass, the sleeping leviathan that is the Texas beer industry will awaken, and soon our scene will be spoken of with the same hushed reverence that folks currently reserve for Oregon, California and Colorado.

Below we’ve assembled a partial list of participating breweries from Texas. We honed in on our all time favorites like Saint Arnolds, Real Ale and Live Oak, but also made room for young comers like Lone Pint out of Magnolia-makers of our all time favorite brown ale; Gentleman’s Relish as well as the best beer we tasted so far in 2013; The Yellow Rose. It’s little toddler breweries like this one that get us most excited these days. Out of nowhere, tiny, underfunded, working out of old sheds in dusty forgotten towns-it’s this fresh young blood that keeps us rushing back to our favorite bars to see what magical potions are pouring out of bright tanks across The Republic.
