Shaggybevo's GM Steakhouse Hits The Big Time: Officially Endorsed By John Mueller Barbecue

We've been getting a kick out of the Shaggybevo food board; GM Steakhouse. The men over that way are dyed in the wool chowhounds who seemingly do little other than eat massive amounts of barbecue and drink gallons of beer around Austin then write posts about it.

It reminds me of the old days of Austin's Chowhound board before the unpaid, volunteer moderators ran everybody off.

Chowhoundjunior Is LIVE: We're Going National And Looking At Chowhound From A Broader Perspective

Taking it national y'all. Yes, this weekly article will mainly concern itself with Austin Texas Chowhound but after reading a post earlier tonight we will also delve into the national board.

We'll never forget penning a post on Chowhound about our love for homemade tortillas and the mujeres who make them. We were met with vitriol from an assortment of eaters, "Torchy's apologists" if you will.

Austin Daily Photo: Fricano's Deli Shutters Original Location

Fricano's has shuttered their original location. We loved this restaurant from the moment they opened. Yes, they were slow, toddler-like, out of the gate but once they found their rhythm they became a very good source for fat, deli sandwiches.

It was touch and go from day one whether they were going to remain open. Crowds were slow to arrive and you could tell the little business was struggling to stay afloat.

Austin Daily Photo: Hillside Farmacy From Chef Sonya Cote And The Team Behind Eastside Showroom

Getting excited about what's coming to the little old building across from East End Wines that's housed a variety of restaurants over the years.

Gene's Po Boys was one of our very favorite cafes in Austin but after a 10 year run in our town, chef Gene decided to call it a day and move back to his beloved New Orleans.

J Kelly had a brief run in the building where he basically just ran the business into the ground taking Gene's classic version of old standards and rendering them unrecognizable and unpalatable.

Seth Kugel, New York Times Frugal Traveler Flew 1500 Miles To Eat At TacoDeli

Now we'll be lucky if we'll ever get him to come back.

We noted on Twitter awhile back that Seth Kugel, the New York Times "frugal traveler" was coming to Austin for a $100 weekend of food and merriment to be documented in the paper of record.

He paid some hard dues while he was here.

Hard Times In Spicewood Texas: R.O's Outpost Has Lost Their Lease

Hot off the tipster button we have some bad news out of Spicewood Texas. R.O's Outpost, the western Travis county barbecue restaurant, has lost their lease.

We've been eating here for years. The barbecue is plenty good but as we've said before they have a pie lady worth her weight in gold. This restaurant was the first place we ever sampled deep fried corn on the cob which serves as a very fine side for their classic take on chicken fried steak.

Here's the contact information for R.O's Outpost. I've noted the fact that some real estate folks check in on the scrumptious site from time to time and if one of y'all has a storefront that this restaurant could move into you could save central Texas from losing one of our finest barbecue houses.

A Voice In The Wilderness:Shaggybevo Eater "Bernard" Goes Against The Grain:Hates Franklin Barbecue

We never saw that one coming.

The boys over at Shaggybevo's GM Steakhouse are ardent lovers of Franklin Barbecue. They post moment by moment, day by day updates of what's happening in the Franklin dining room and they are elated with the quality of meat coming out of the Franklin smokehouse.

Austin Daily Photo: Yvonne And Gracie At Easy Tiger Bake Shop And Beer Garden

Our main fear is that we won't be able to get a table. We're navigating downtown in the hopes that this gorgeous Winter afternoon will not find the masses descended upon Easy Tiger.

Unfounded.

While the word is certainly out that David Norman is back in the game and putting out the best baked goods in Austin, the restaurant is actually pretty lightly attended when we first walk in the door.
