Down in Waelder is one of the great Texas barbecue treasures.

The former and long time Eureste's was sold but some earnest barbecue folks have taken up the reigns and put out some very fine smoked sausage.

The brisket has slipped a notch but on a recent trip through the big houses of Lockhart and Luling, Waelder Grocery put out the finest sausage of the trek.

  Drove from San Antonio to Waelder on the 27th of April. Been making the drive for over 30 years. Was always very pleased till this time. The chef appeared annoyed at having his break interrupted and only grudgingly attended to me. Food was bland and dry, not what I've been accustomed to. May have been my last trip.
