Back when Dot's Place was off Well's Branch I used to enjoy riding up there now and again to get a plate of fried catfish or chicken and dumplings.
When her restaurant burned to the ground the elderly Dot was at loose ends for a couple of years til she could secure funding to reopen.
I love it when a homespun restaurant takes over a former fast food chain. So when Dorothy Hewitt reimagined an old Mr. Gatti's as a homecooking spot I celebrated a bit.
Austin has lost one of the great old dames of the cooking scene with her passing.
