Bounce For The Juvenile

Juvenile (Terius Gray) was born 45 years ago today.

Since around ’92, he’s needed no introduction to anybody who had a radio, the internet or a cousin hawking cassette tapes on a second line. That was the year D.J Jimi’s Bounce (For The Juvenile) featured a 17 year old Gray on one of New Orleans first bounce records.

Just three years later, the New York-based Warlock imprint put out Juvie’s debut full length “Being Myself.” That one gained zero traction but when “Solja Rag” followed in ’97 with Mannie Fresh at the board, New Orleans went crazy for the young comer.

Have a look at the video that came out to accompany the cut in that long ago time and marvel at Juvenile rocking a visor whilst singing an homage to Reebok.
