We spent an hour on the antique Broyhill sofa this morning digging to find some essential, brand-new New Orleans hip hop track to feature here, and came up empty handed. There’s plenty out there but not a single cut had that “hook” that takes a regional act and turns them into a breakout national star.

Then we put on Rockie Charles (Charles Merrick) who passed today back in 2010.

‘Riccasha’ (Ricochet with a riff on the spelling) came out in 1967 and was played a little bit around the New Orleans area but failed to turn Charles into a Joe Tex level figure.

It should have.

Put ‘Riccasha’ on today and celebrate the life of the ‘President of Soul’
