We’re listening to “The Emperor of the World” aka Ernie Kador aka Ernie-K-Doe, one of the biggest personalities to ever erupt out of the New Orleans music scene.
A few years back somebody used to drive around the 9th Ward in the morning blasting tapes of K-Doe’s old radio shows on WWOZ. That person has ceased for reasons unknown but during Carnival season tens of thousands of households across our city will have Mr Ernie on heavy rotation right up til Ash Wednesday.
Most of those living rooms will be ringing out his record Mother-In-Law which hit the number one spot in the US Hot 100 in May of 1961.
Born: February 22 1933, New Orleans, Louisiana
Died: July 5 2001, New Orleans, Louisiana
You know that was one hell of a second line
If you dig Ernie come out to our big Scrumptious Chef Cajun Gumbo Pop Up on Sunday February 23rd at Little People’s Place in Treme. We’ll have a cauldron of gumbo and a live DJ spinning old school New Orleans music. 5pm.
