We love reading historical books on the music scene in New Orleans from back when the giants were still alive. Club Tijuana closed its doors before we were born but we can practically smell the Pall Mall smoke wafting off the pages of “Walking to New Orleans” by John Broven.
A buddy of mine’s mom was a barmaid at the old Dew Drop and I’ve spent hours in his company being regaled by tales of that old barroom. Club Tijuana was the scruffy little sister to the fancier Dew Drop. “Tijuana was the type of place where the down and outers could go.”
Huey Smith and the Clowns came of age in Club Tijuana.
Our kind of joint.
