Double D sausage from Bogalusa, Louisiana is a crucial ingredient in our world famous gumbo

The LSU AgCenter has announced a 2019 series of meetings of importance to Louisiana rice farmers.

Don Groth, resident coordinator of the H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station announced that the meetings will focus on rice varietals, pest control, new technology, and land preparation.

Mr Groth has some serious bonafides after earning his bachelor’s degree in botany from Eastern Illinois University and his master’s and doctorate degrees from Iowa State University.

Groth has worked at the rice station for 36 years.


January 9th 2019: Ville Platte Civic Center, registration at 7:30am followed by the event at 8am

January 9th 2019: The Rice Council, and LA Rice Growers Association joint meeting at The Grand Marais in Jennings. 4pm trade show with meeting to follow.

January 10th 2019: Vermilion Parish Farm Bureau, Abbeville. Registration at 8:30am, event at 9am.

We only eat Louisiana rice at the Scrumptious house in New Orleans 9th Ward, and we’ll be traveling home to Austin with 20lbs of the best our state has to offer for our big gumbo pop up on January 20th at Tamale House East.
