Queen Gabrielle Price at the 2017 Gheens Bon Mange Festival

Lafourche Parish dates to 1807 and is one of the original 19 parishes formed after the Louisiana Purchase.

We load up the Econoline every spring and head down the yearly edition of the big Gheens Bon Mange Festival near Bayou Lafourche in picturesque Gheens, Louisiana.

It’s one of the best food parties in Acadiana.

You’ll eat like a country king as the ladies and men down in that part of our fair state all grew up at the knees of their parents and grandparents as they tended to massive black pots of gumbo, kettles filled with hot oil, and blazing smokers loaded down with seasoned pecan wood and every seemingly animal on earth.

The menu at this year’s 2018 Gheens Bon Mange Festival includes:
Seafood Gumbo
Chicken and Sausage Gumbo
Jambalaya
Catfish Platter
White Beans and Rice w/ Catfish or Griads
Fried Fish Po-Boys
Shrimp Po-Boys
Griads (sic) Po-Boys
Cracklins
Baked Chicken and Rice Dressing (SUNDAY ONLY)
———————-
as well as mundane fare like
Hamburgers
Hot dogs
Chicken Nuggets
Fries
Nachos
Chili Fritos

more from last year’s party

Where: 1783 LA-654, Gheens, LA 70355
