One of the highlights of late Summer in New Orleans is the Mardi Gras Indian Hall Of Fame Ceremony held at Ashe Cultural Arts Center in the Central City neighborhood.

If you want to see dozens of Mardi Gras Indians wearing street clothes, pounding drums and letting out war whoops then this is the place.

Cherice Harrison Nelson, daughter of Donald Harrison, is the emcee of the event each year and constantly chastens the crowd that she “used to be a 3rd grade teacher” as she attempts to quell the rowdiness.
