We were in Lafayette, Louisiana for Festival International or we would’ve been pointing the Econoline toward South Pittburg Tennessee for the big 2017 National Cornbread Festival Competition held this past weekend.
Hidemi Walsh of Centreville, Virginia won the championship with her chili shrimp and coconut cornbread recipe.
2nd place went to Ashlyn Morgan of Englewood, Tennessee with her cornbread Cuban sandwiches with mojo sauce. Her finish puts lie to the old phrase ‘ain’t no good in Englewood’
Felice Bogus of Raleigh, North Carolina finished 3rd with her recipe for smokey chicken tinga street gorditas.
Walsh was rewarded with a $5,000 cash prize and a 30-inch stainless steel gas range from FiveStar Professional Cooking Equipment.
