Masked Riders Arrive At T Boy’s Slaughterhouse For 2017 Cajun Mardi Gras

We arose at 3:30 am on Mardi Gras morning to make the long drive from New Orleans’ 9th Ward to Mamou, Louisiana for Cajun Mardi Gras or ‘Real Mardi Gras’ as the residents of Evangeline Parish call it.

Having attended New Orleans’ Mardi Gras since the 80s we were ready for a break from big city ways, and figured drinking beer and eating barbecue on the prairies of Acadiana would provide respite from the Big Easy.

Mamou is the World Capital Of Cajun Music, and after 10 hours spent at Fred’s Lounge yesterday we’re inclined to agree with that bold claim.
