The 2017 Class Got Brass Brass Band Shootout is set to go off. Public middle, and high school bands from across Louisiana will be honking as hard as they can Sunday March 19th 2017 at Congo Square as part of the New World’s Rhythm Festival.
We would not miss it for the world.
“Competing bands are limited to 12 members – only one bass drum, one snare drum and one tuba. All other instruments must be part of the recognized brass band tradition. Schools are encouraged to augment their bands with “steppers,” or dancers”
If these young musicians can tap into a few of the high school dancers we see working it out at Sunday Second Lines they will greatly improve their odds of winning.
If you want to see the best dancers in the US all you have to do is roll out to a Second Line on any given Sunday in New Orleans. Your mind will be blown.
Last year Medard H. Nelson Charter School won $10k for their first place victory. Band director Johnnie Van Buren II led the crew.
