Don’s Specialty Meats’ Carencro, Louisiana location (est.1993) has burned to the ground.
We never darkened the door.
When we’re running back and forth between Texas and New Orleans we always exit at Scott (near Lafayette) to hit Best Stop and Don’s but we’ve never visited ‘the other’ Don’s.
The two stores are only 10 miles apart but the convenience of the I-10 shop always wins out.
Sunday morning (October 2nd) a fire started in the pit room at the original Don’s and quickly consumed the building.
All the employees ran for cover and made it out before the conflagration rolled through the old structure.
The 24 employees at Don’s in Carencro will be temporarily employed at owner Mark “Aubrey” Cole’s Scott location.
Mr Cole expects to have a fresh building in place in Carencro by mid-2017.
