Ruby’s Barbecue Is One Of The Best Brisket Houses In Central Texas

It’s no secret that our former home of Austin, Texas is the barbecue capital of the world.

We’re traveling home later this month and will be eating nothing but barbecue and Tex-Mex for the duration of our visit.

A meal of smoked brisket used to be a cheap way to take the family out for supper, give mom a night off in the kitchen and sit a spell in an old smokehouse eating slabs of the best meat on earth: Texas barbecue.

Those days are gone but we’re not going to let that stop us from eating like kings in Central Texas. It just takes a little planning to make sure we’re getting the most bang for our hard-earned dollars.

Here’s Austin’s current brisket prices at a handful of places we rang up this morning while we were in research mode.

Ruby’s $21.95

John Mueller Meat Company $19.98

Franklin $20

Stiles Switch $18.74

LA Barbecue $20

Micklethwait $18

Rudy’s $17.18

County Line $20.48

We once penned an article on what might happen if Aaron Franklin began charging $50 a pound for brisket
