Parkway Bakery and Tavern reminds us of Franklin Barbecue in Austin, Texas. Good food served to surging hoards of eaters who have completely ruined the dining experience. This photo was taken approximately 20 minutes before the Bayou St John eatery flung their doors open for lunch service.
We had the Econoline van loaded down with members of The Council For The Preservation Of The Po Boy Sandwich, and we were good and hungry too but after parsing the length of the line we broke camp and headed down to our favorite quick mart in the Marigny.
Brett Anderson of the Times Picayune barely writes anymore but he did break silence yesterday to breathe life into an old roast beef po boy article he wrote four years ago. He’s not wild about Parkway’s roast beef po boy. It’s been years since we had one from there and frankly we’re not going back anytime soon.
There are hundreds of po boy shops in New Orleans as good or better and the thought of standing in the Parkway line gives us an ascending case of the vapors.
