As the 2014 Plaquemines Parish Seafood Festival roars to life, the queen of last year’s party prepares to abdicate her throne.

There is scant online information on how Nadia Cognevich conducted her reign which may be a good thing. Surely had there been any sort of royal scandal the Times Picayune would’ve broken the story in a big way. No matter, a new queen will accept her coronation this weekend in Belle Chasse, Louisiana just a short drive south of New Orleans proper.

While the beauty pageant portion of the party is surely a big deal you’d have to travel far and wide to find a better food festival. Here’s a partial list of dining options:

Charbroiled oysters

Catfish with Delacroix Sauce

Boudin Balls

Fried Fish w/Crawfish Sauce

Stuffed Crab w/Potato Salad

Shrimp and Grilled Lobster Tail

Crawfish Pie

Tonight, Friday May 16th 2014 the party swings into motion at 6pm with a two hour set of Croatian music. Southeast Louisiana has a huge Croatian diaspora via the fishing industry and you can bet the stage will be crowded with Croats sawing on fiddles and thumbing accordions. We saw an incredible Croatian band last year at 3 Muses on Frenchmen and we are betting this will be concert for the ages.
