A few months ago we made our way to the Draughthouse in Central Austin for the Austin Beer Guide Winter release party. It was a glorious affair save for the poor beleaguered barkeeps who were in no way prepared for the mammoth crowd.

Once the wait for a fresh brew stretched past a half hour we left for greener pastures. The word is out on their brewmaster Joe Mohrfield who got trolled down from his lofty perch at Odell in Colorado to tend the barrels at Pinthouse.

In most towns he’d slide comfortably into the number one spot but Austin is chockablock with topflight talent these days so he has to be contented with mere upper echelon status.

We’re living in a beer soaked golden age y’all.

With new craft beer bars opening on a monthly basis and a half dozen new craft breweries slated to open in Austin this year, we’ve never had it so good.
