There’s not a lot of information out there on East Austin’s newest, yet to open, market. If ever there was a food desert on the east side, it would be the Rosewood neighborhood and the Rosewood Courts public housing development.
There’s nary a proper grocery store in sight and only a weathered quick mart with the requisite sodas, candy bars and snack chips nearby. Allen Edgar Rogers seeks to change that. We’ve looked at Mr. Rogers’ Facebook page and while it’s emblazoned with logos and photos of Rosewood Community Market, the whys and wherefores are scant as to be non-existent.
Given the lack of money in the nearby neighborhood, one hopes that the store will feature goods and sundries at a low enough price to sustain the bellies of local eaters.
Rogers is competing for a grant from Fedex to help fund the market. Here’s a link to that endeavor: http://grantcontest.fedex.com/fedex-small-business-grant-voting/microsite/gallery/508000d4d548ae9e6f09d8c7?cmp=SOC-1000968-16-1-1002-1111000-US-US-EN-TWENTRANTSHARE0&utm_source=tweet&utm_medium=viral
