While it’s true you can scarcely walk into a restaurant in Austin without someone heaving a basket of totopos in your general direction, the sad fact of the matter is that most are barely edible.

Then there’s El Naranjo, the brand new Oaxacan restaurant on Rainey Street from world famous chef Iliana de la Vega. Ms. de la Vega has taken totopos to a new level in our town. Of course the fact that she’s starting with scratch tortillas produced via her very own molino {mill} in the kitchen doesn’t hurt. We were knocked out a few nights ago at El Naranjo.
