What a great resource Shaggybevo’s GM Steakhouse is for Austin beer and food lovers.

We’ve covered them quite a bit these past few months, and are having a ball over that way posting and reading tons of informative, food related musings from a group of men who seeming do little more than eat and drink their way across Austin on a daily basis.

If you’re unfamiliar with the board you may want to visit, scout through a few threads and see about signing up. It’s wild and wooly with plenty profanity and highly opinionated writing, but it’s easily the most active food board in Austin and there’s lots of good info over that way.

Some recent gems: Bourbon. Poster “Haggis” put up a killer pic of his bourbon stash and the info flowed like the mighty Cumberland River. We drink lots of bourbon at the scrumptious house {mainly Bulleit} and love a good forum where people sit around talking about their favorites. http://www.shaggybevo.com/board/showthread.php/104921-Bourbon/page4

New Orleans. Poster FChorn started a thread on our favorite American city. We’ve been vacationing there since we were in grammar school and have hit hundreds of bars and restaurants since those halcyon days. Some of the recs on this thread are from people who stick with the tourist-y spots but there are some gems afoot as well. http://www.shaggybevo.com/board/showthread.php/112434-Preliminary-Itinerary-for-New-Orleans…/page3

We love the wild and wooly nature of GM Steakhouse so it was really funny when a “chowhound moderator” style poster complained about our cross linking to our voluminous NOLA coverage on www.chowpapi.com. There’s one in every crowd.

Barbecue. John Mueller is flat taking over. The hot-tempered Taylor meat man is at the top of the Austin barbecue world right now and he’s done it without compromising his famously combative style. He’s at his profane best posting on the thread that’s devoted to his smokehouse/trailer down in Bouldin Creek. http://www.shaggybevo.com/board/showthread.php/54521-John-Mueller-s-2010-Austin-BBQ-Plans/page65

These are the threads we’ve been reading through the most lately, but there are hundreds of other ones on topics ranging from grocery stores to beers to taco carts. Join up on the GM Steakhouse forum and start contributing y’all.
