We had ourselves a time yesterday afternoon at the “Save The Times Pic” rally at Rock ‘n’ Bowl in New Orleans. For those uninformed, the Times Picayune, after 175 years of publication, is going to a 3 day a week schedule in the fall of this year.

New Orleanians are not going to let this naked aggression stand without a fight. Local heavy hitters Allen Toussaint and Kermit Ruffins performed for a crowd of several hundred people as the parking lot baked and turned into a dance sauna. Watching down from overhead was the sign in today’s photo feature. Straight Stick Ranch Burger Company is the newest offering from the Blancher family who own Rock n Bowl and Ye Olde College Inn restaurant.

The menu runs towards grass fed beef burgers, cold beer and beignets-the foods that make life worth living. The name of the business came from Johnny Blancher’s cattle ranch in south Louisiana, it’s been in the family for over a hundred years.

Unfortunately, we had already run hog wild out at Tag’s Meat Market and Deli out in Chalmette, so we had zero room for any beef-grass fed or otherwise.

Save for one skirmish {a man got a beer thrown on him and was challenged to a brawl} the event went off without a hitch. Like any good New Orleans party, rally or what have you, everybody danced and drank til the cows came home.
