Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone. May 5th is traditionally the day that Americans celebrate as though it was Mexican Independence day. With all the major beer companies getting on board years ago you would think that today is a major Mexican holiday.
It’s not. But still, as Americans, we celebrate. Last year I had an epic run toward eating Mexican food ten times on Cinco de Mayo. I detailed this mission here http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2011/5/5/Happy-Cinco-de-Mayo-Austin-Eat-Mexican-Food-Ten-Times-Today-and-Write-About-It-
It was a good day.
Tacorama is being held today at the Mexican American Cultural Center just south of downtown Austin. It sounds like a hell of a party.
* Taco pinata
* Live music by AJ Guzman
* A performance by Southwest Key’s Ballet Folklorico
* Refreshments-not sure if that’s going to include booze or not, so you may want to make sure that flask of tequila that lives in your purse is topped off before you go.
They had me at taco pinata.
Capital Area Food Bank will be on site so you may want to hit the cupboard and dust off a few cans of chili mac to take with you.
