Austin Texas pitboss Aaron Franklin has been named as a judge on the upcoming season of BBQ Pitmasters, Jim Shahin is reporting in his new Smoke Signals column.

When’s Franklin going to find the time to tend the fires at his Franklin Barbecue over here in East Austin? Franklin joins Tuffy Stone, Virginia smoked meat man as well as the legendary Myron Mixon who hails from Georgia. Mixon’s Jack’s Old South Competition Bar-B-Que Team has won over 200 grand championships since he formed the team back in 1996.

We hope Franklin’s associate pitbosses have studied hard at the knee of their employer.

Look for the show to begin airing in June on new network Destination America.

Austin’s barbecue community is still on pins and needles as we wait for the epic clash between Franklin and his former boss John Mueller.
