Exploding. That’s the only way to describe what we’re witnessing in the Austin Texas food scene. New restaurants and bars are opening up by the dozen all over town.
These are exciting times. I had a great conversation last night with a lady restaurateur who’s been in Austin since 1982 and she’s gobsmacked by what’s happening in our city.
It really becomes evident when you travel to other towns around the US and you see for rent signs in buildings in the downtown area. I immediately imagine what sort of barbecue joint or coffee bar would do well in the space. When a commercial space goes on the market in Austin its mere days before an entrepreneur comes a calling with a prospective business plan for a new bar or cafe.
