Here’s an updated version of this article http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2012/4/11/Austin-Daily-Photo-Sneak-Peek-Inside-The-Wet-Whistle-At-MLK-and-Chicon?adminview=true
Intel is scant [ but being fleshed out in comments ] but the long dormant building on the northeast corner of MLK and Chicon is apparently going to be a pub modeled after the Draught House on Medical Arts. The name being tossed around is “Whistle Stop”
The space is tiny so we’re not sure how they’ll pull off a true pub environment. The word pub gets thrown around awfully loosely in these parts. The Tigress is a fine bar for instance but is no way a true pub. Public houses offer food, are family friendly, are open 365 days a year and are the sort of place where old pensioners, toddlers, teenagers and embittered 20 somethings all take respite from the hard cold non-pub world.
We’re always happy to see new watering holes pop up in our neighborhood and will report back as events warrant.
