Time for our weekly aggregate of the best 5 posts from the past week on the Austin Chowhound board. While we spend most of our “food board” time over on Shaggybevo, we do like to check out the old Chowhound once a week or so and see what’s rattling around that way.

Without further ado. The top 5 posts this week on Austin Chowhound. 1] Much hand wringing has ensued over the death of local Greek restaurant El Greco, made famous by being featured on Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares.

We ate there once and it was not memorable for the food but the hospitality was very fine. After the owner ran everybody out we sat around doing shots of Ouzo and talking shop for a couple hours.

Poster “ieathereforiam” had this to say regarding Ramsay’s attempted makeover “Ramsey may be a fancy cussin’ n cooking clown, but some foolio invited him over.”

Well said. We wrote a monstrously popular piece on the entire affair http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2011/8/18/Along-Came-Gordon-Ramsays-Kitchen-Nightmares-Kicks-The-Door-In-At-El-Greco

2] Poster “slowcooked” is looking for menudo. “I’m surprised to not have found much on this site dealing with Menudo. I’m on the hunt for the red version. I can’t seem to get enough unctuous villi – laden beef gut in a steamy red broth with a touch of citrus, oregano, and hominy.”

We got you “slowcooked”. Our number one source in Austin proper is El Taco Rico where chef Yolanda Sanchez Cornejo puts out a divine version on Saturday and Sunday http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2012/1/1/Austin-Daily-Photo-Yolanda-Sanchez-Cornejo-of-El-Taco-Rico-In-Montopolis-Neighborhood

Our second favorite is at La Canaria on Airport blvd, once again, Sat and Sun only http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2011/2/13/Austin-Daily-Photo-La-Canaria-Sunday-February-13th-2011

3] Poster “scrumptiouschef” started a topic called Hard Hat Report where the posters all report on new restaurants and bars that are preparing to open or have just opened. We have a site feature called “Birth Notice” where we do the same thing. Lots and lots of breaking Austin restaurant news right this way http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/Birth-Notice

4] Poster “the_sneeb” is looking for a good Sunday brunch spot.”Staying on South Congress but will drive. Thinking La Condesa, Lucy’s, or Foreign and Domestic. A friend of mine said to go to Takoba. Any thoughts?”

We’ve got brunch down to an art form as this is one of our favorite times of the week. Stretch out on the patio at Four Seasons for a few hours, drink 15-20 mimosas and live like fat cats for an afternoon. It’s expensive but so decadent and civilized that we simply must indulge from time to time. http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2011/8/15/Drinking-The-Devils-Backbone-At-Four-Seasons-Real-Ale-Party

5] Poster “Lucky_Skunk” is excited about John Mueller and Aaron Franklin being on the cover of the new Texas Monthly. We’re certain that this article will make a fine preamble to our masterwork that will be forthcoming on one half of this duo at a future date. Til then you may content yourself with knowing we have massive coverage of both mssrs Mueller and Franklin right here on this site.
