A warm Winter morning spent in the tiny, urban courtyard at La Boite’s Congress Avenue location is a fine way to start an Austin day.
Along with David Norman over at Easy Tiger, La Boite’s baker Barrie Cullinan represents the apogee of the Austin baking scene. There may be some young upstarts out there [and we’d love to hear about them] but these are the two most revered figures in the Austin world of flour and water. A retiree is enjoying a Pall Mall and a cup of coffee, a Mexican skate punk is chain smoking and gnawing on a croissant, a pair of Canadian travelers are eating sandwiches and boasting about their impending push through Mexico “screw the Zetas, we’re on vacation”.
We’re off to the side wishing the wifi was functioning and taking in a very fine scene.
We were at loose ends when Little City shuttered. We’re downtown a lot so we need a good spot to drink coffee and do our daily research work.
La Boite seems very promising.
