We take a a lot of photos for our Austin Daily Photo site feature. Several thousand over the course of a year. If it’s not at least tangentially related to food we leave the camera in the backpack. Recently we looked over our site metrics to determine which ones y’all found the most compelling. Here they are; the photos that garnered the most page views this year. 1] Legendary Austin chef Raymond Tatum announced he was entering the world of food trailer cooking with his Three Little Pigs restaurant. Y’all went wild sending this photo to the number one spot. http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2011/1/25/Austin-Daily-Photo-Three-Little-Pigs-Tuesday-January-25th-2011
2] McGuire Moorman Hospitality Group, the folks behind Perla’s Seafood and Oyster Bar and Lambert’s Downtown Barbecue recently opened their Vietnamese cafe in Bouldin Creek. 3] We took a spy photo of the new John Mueller Barbecue trailer within moments of it arriving from Mississippi in the dead of night. The rest of local media had their feet on the couch watching reruns of Murphy Brown. http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2011/9/22/Austin-Daily-PhotoSpy-EditionFirst-Look-JMueller-BBQ-aka-John-Mueller-Barbecue-Thu-Sept-22nd-2011

10] And finally we bid a fond farewell to TC’s Lounge, a chitlin circuit-era juke joint on Austin’s East Side http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2011/8/5/Austin-Daily-Photo-TCs-Lounge-Friday-August-5th-2011
While these were not necessarily the best photos we took this year these were the “most popular”.
We’re still teaching ourselves on how to make pictures. We’ve learned that buildings are easy, food is hard and a steadying shot of liquor right before you press the shutter is always good.
Hope to do better work in 2012.
Special bonus from RL Reeves Jr: “This was my favorite photo I took for this site all year long. It did not get a million page views but I am very proud of it.” http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2011/12/5/Austin-Daily-Photo-Last-Shift-At-Charlies-Steakhouse-Cheyenne-Deep-In-Thought
