We seek balance in all things. Yes we love barbecue but we’re not going to write about barbecue til you feel like taking your computer and throwing it out a window.
We love hamburgers but we’re not going to exclusively write about them til you feel like screaming “enough already scrump, we get it, you really love hamburgers” We have an official section on this site called “Best Hamburger In Austin” that we periodically update along with features on dive bars, soul food, Tex Mex, food carts and what have you.
We just found out today is National Hamburger Day so we’re barely getting this in under the wire. Here are 5 good bets on Austin Texas burger joints where you can get an admirable take on a hamburger.
1] Sputnik is the new[ish] outfit from Randall Stockton, the local bar baron. He opened this joint up in the old Good Knight room. Sputnik puts out a good burger/fry combo that won’t break the bank. If they were open for lunch we’d visit more frequently. http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2011/8/11/Dont-Call-It-A-Comeback-Randall-Stocktons-Back-In-The-Game-With-Sputnik
2] G’s 183 Pit Stop is a little hamburger trailer 10 minutes south of Austin on the way to Lockhart. Impossibly juicy and very friendly service http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2011/8/6/Best-Hamburger-in-Austin-Part-Twelve-Gs-183-Pit-Stop-Saturday-August-6th-2011
3] The Shack Corner Store over off Webberville Road puts out a great quick mart burger. Neighborhood characters lend added appeal. http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2011/7/8/Best-Hamburger-In-Austin-The-Shack-Corner-Store-Friday-July-8th-2011
4] We love Cherrywood Coffee House. It’s a real asset to French Place neighborhood and they put out a lovely burger with house cut fries. Pray that you don’t get one of the smirking, prima donna baristas [they’re outnumbered by the golden ones] and you should be just fine. http://www.scrumptiouschef.com/food/2011/6/11/Best-Hamburger-In-Austin-Part-Eight-Cherrywood-Coffee-House
5] We haven’t penned a full review just yet but Flat Top Burger Shop is incredible. Cheap, $3.69, house cut potatoes, friendly counter staff, we love this place http://chowpapi.com/wordpress/wordpress-2.8.6/wordpress/?p=1791
Now get out there and eat a burger Austin. It’s National Hamburger Day.
