Today Is The Day: Franklin Barbecue Set To Re-open After Hiatus. But Where Is Aaron Franklin?
The show must go on. Franklin Barbecue reopens today Friday November 11th 2011 after an interminable [to their eaters]vacation.
However, one crucial element is missing. Pit boss and owner Aaron Franklin, who has reportedly been whisked to New York City on Eater Austin’s corporate jet, surely a Dassault Falcon 7X. We picture Paula Forbes gussied up a la Christina Ricci on Pan Am with JW Walthall evoking a young Leslie Nielsen in Airplane for the journey.
Franklin’s kicked back like David Coverdale with his wife reprising the role of Tawny Kitaen.
It’s a lifestyle anybody could get used to. Even a humble pit boss from Texas.
Meanwhile, in New York City we reckon Elizabeth Karmel, the executive chef at Hill Country Barbecue is feeling a mite shaky this weekend. Aaron Franklin is snatching the reigns of the kitchen on Sunday and putting out a brisket feast for New York eaters the likes of which they’ve never seen.
We have no doubt that Ms Karmel is a fine cook but Franklin has shown his prodigy status to be fully valid with 2 hour plus lines at his restaurant 6 days a week.
These are interesting times. If any of our readers in New York could possibly issue a field report on the chow on Sunday we’d be most obliged.
