Texas breweries acquitted themselves admirably at the Great American Beer Fest this weekend in Colorado. Austin Beerworks brought a silver medal home to Austin for their victory in the English-style summer ale category for their Peacemaker.

Humperdink’s of Dallas carted a gold back to Texas for its Uberbrau in the American-style amber lager category.

Uncle Billy’s gathered up a silver medal for its Bottle Rocket Lager in the kellerbier or zwickelbier category and North By Northwest won a bronze for its Barton Kriek in the Belgian-style lambic division of the competition.

Congratulations to all these Texas beer makers.

We’ve been drinking the Hell out of Austin Beerworks Pearl Snap Pils this summer so it’s no surprise these men brought home a medal.

Austin is in the middle of a beer renaissance right now with a good dozen breweries clawing at the stranglehold Live Oak has had on the market for the last two decades.

While Live Oak’s supremacy is unchallenged for now the titans of the East Side at least have viable contenders for their crown in 2011.

We’re waiting patiently for Austin’s Adelbert’s as Belgian Ale is our lifeblood. Hope to see these guys up and running before the end of the year. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Adelberts-Beer/101013936612709?sk=wall

Austin homebrewer Corey Martin won the national homebrewing competition sponsored by Boston Beer Co. Martin’s beer, a dunkel, will be brewed commercially and enjoy national distribution from the makers of Sam Adams.

We’re no fans of Sam Adams but are happy to see Martin win out over what was surely some stiff competition.

50,000 drunken advocates of beer descended on Colorado for the festival. Roughly the same amount as you’ll find on 6th street on a weekend night.

Wonder how many millions of dollars were pumped into Colorado’s dispensaries over the last few days?
