The Rebirth Of La Monita: In 2012 East Austin Will Once Again Have A World Class Carniceria
Rolling down Webberville Road this morning on a recon photo run I spy Antonio, owner of the shuttered Mexican heavyweight meat market La Monita. I’ve not seen him since the closure so I pull over to ask after his weal and see what happened to the legend.
Antonio is doing well these days. He’s living over in Houston and managing his affairs from his home there.
He has a totilleria and some land holdings including the building that once housed La Monita.
I take a wild, hopeful stab and ask after a possible rebirth of the famous meat stand.
YES.
In 2012, with the blessing of Providence, La Monita will be reopened. Possibly on Riverside Drive but definitely on the East Side of Austin.
I’ve written a bit about La Monita in the past.

Did LA Monita ever reopen again in Austin Texas?
RL Reeves Jr says:
Unfortunately, no.
