This is the first barbecue house in Texas we heard tales of from friends with first hand experience. During one of Texas’ endless cycles of boom and bust, a hard hat buddy came to Austin looking for work wiring houses and found it. He was making good money and living the dream of long nights in the honky tonks, days filled with hard work and Texas barbecue to fuel him on his adventures.

His barbecue of choice was Ruby’s on Guadalupe.

The old Toddle House has seen a lot of smoked meat roll off its pits over the last 20 or so years.

Like any meat house they have their good days and their bad days but when it’s all said and done, this is one of Austin’s finest.

We don’t make it by there too often as their prices are on the high side but when we do we remember why we love this old town so much.

Ruby’s is Austin through and through.
