Over on Austin’s Eater website they’re reporting the death of Austin’s matriarch of hamburgers, Frances Stanish.
The former owner of Top Notch, the internationally famous burger shop on Burnet Road, was 75 years old.
We’ve written regularly about Top Notch for over a decade as their food has been a shining light in North Austin for 40 years.
The Stanish family had previously sold the icon to the owners of Galaxy Cafe.
Mrs Stanish’ passing follows the death of her son James Stanish who died at the age of 50 in 2008.
Here’s a link to an article we recently penned on Top Notch in our Best Hamburger In Austin series.
