We’re still searching for a carniceria the equal of the now shuttered La Monita. We miss everything about this little meat market that stood the test of time since 1973….til the City of Austin closed 7th street and killed it.

We arose at dawn with a powerful hankering for pork cracklins fresh from the fryer to chop up with some eggs and convert into breakfast tacos.

Last night before bed we reached into the spot in the fridge where we always kept our barbacoa stash and there was nothing there.

We miss La Monita.

What is your favorite Mexican meat market in town?
