Hans “Grizz” Van Der Enden of Dallas’ Whole Foods meat market has vanquished his Texas foes and is moving onto New York City to compete at the 2011 Amstel Light Meatopia’s Best Butcher Competition Saturday July 23rd 2011.
Meatopia has been described as the “Woodstock of edible animals” and was founded by Josh Ozersky the James Beard award winning columnist and author.
Ozersky swears that there will not be one vegetable served at this meaty celebration. 11 butchers from Whole Foods stores nationwide emerged out of their preliminary battles for the right to compete in New York City.
Lots of chefs cooking at this meat party. Among them:
April Bloomfield of The Spotted Pig and Michael White of Marea, Sean Brock of Husk in South Carolina, Naomi Pomeroy from Beast in Portland, Oregon and Floyd Cardoz of Top Chef fame.
