When it comes time to talk artisan coffee in Austin the conversation begins with JP’s Java on the southern edge of the Hyde Park neighborhood.

It’s been ten years since JP Hogan brought craft beans to the neighborhood and during that time I’ve seen a lot of new bucks come stepping up to the old bull.

But when JP’s is firing on all cylinders it’s still at the zenith of the coffee game in town. He certainly made it a lot easier for the public to discern the difference between the good stuff and the overly roasted, barely caffeinated coffee served at Ruta Maya or a host of other places in Austin.
