Jane and Michael Stern have been putting out Roadfood books since 1978. This was well before Al Gore invented the internet and eons before food obsession became the pet rock of the modern era. The new one has a great title:
Roadfood: The Coast-to-Coast Guide to 800 of the Best Barbecue Joints, Lobster Shacks, Ice Cream Parlors, Highway Diners, and Much, Much More
I love that they trumpet the qualities of the stock the cover is printed on thusly: “It is printed on paper designed to absorb maximum drips of barbecue sauce, gravy, fried-chicken juice, pancake syrup, and melting ice cream.” * 800 reviews
* 200 of which are brand new
* Publication date of May 10th
* Pre-order on Amazon
I’ll be curious to see if they make it available for those Dick Tracy style telephones everybody seems to be toting around these days.
I reckon they’ll have it out there for the Kindle crowd too.
I can’t wait to lay back on my couch, turn on some WWOZ and have a good leisurely romp through this new American food guide.
