It’s been awhile since I’ve been this excited about finding a new, underground, restaurant. Tucked away in a faded, tiny strip mall in the Windsor Park neighborhood of Northeast Austin sits Cuban Sandwich Cafe.
Walking in the first thing you see is an incredible pastry case; the work of chef/owner Enrique Reyes, a Cuban gentleman from Miami Florida.
I’ll be marching through this man’s menu in the next few weeks as it looks extremely promising.
Hell, he’s developed a signature burger that looks phenomenal with a big patty topped with lechon asada, ham, bacon, cheese and Lord knows what else.
The little old lady in line next to me last weekend got one and she nearly fell out.
It is enormous.
She exclaimed that it would take a week for her to plow through it.
