It’s not hard to get a bowl of gumbo in New Orleans. But when you’re looking for a top notch version then you might better get used to looking as the top flight stuff can be hard to come by.
Not so at Li’l Dizzy’s on Esplanade. A recent lunch visit found most diners tucking into big platters of fried chicken but I really needed a gumbo to fuel me as I stared down the barrel of a 500+ mile drive.
The server arrived with a quart or so sized bowl of shrimp and andouille gumbo with enough crustaceans to restock the Gulf of Mexico and a pound or so of good quality sausage.
