Over at the Austin History Center they’ve just put up an exhibit on the historic importance of diners in Austin starting in the 1930’s and running to the 1970’s.
I’m really looking forward to the section of the exhibit where UT and Huston-Tillotson students hold sit-ins at lunch counters to bring an end to the Jim Crow laws in effect in Austin at that time.
If you’re a lover of food arcana, black and white photography and the history of Austin then this exhibit may be of interest to you.
